Etching with Charles Newington

Etching with Charles Newington

Etching with Charles Newington.
2009 Course Dates:
Saturday 30th - Sunday 31st May
Saturday 18th - Sunday 19 July

This two day course will introduce you to the technique of etching. Having created your image on the plate and printed the first impression from it, you will be well on the way to become an addicted etcher by the end of the session.
Starting with the basic techniques of drawing directly on the plate, Charles will explain and demonstrate the many different ways of the plate making and printing tricks of the trade available.
After a preliminary talk and demonstration, Charles will work with you on a one to one basis towards realising what you, individually, would like to do.
So, come with an open mind, or a clear specific idea or two of what you would like to achieve and bring drawings / images you have made that you feel would translate well into etchings and we will take it from there.
Charles Newington, as well as being a well established painter, is a very experienced etcher. He was the etching technician at the Central school in London before going on to teach etching there and many other art schools in the country. He ran the etching studio of Editions Alecto, in the late 70's, when it was the leading fine art print publisher at the time, where he made etchings for many well known contemporary artists, and worked for museums and galleries restoring and printing from important surviving antique copperplates. See his website for more information. www.charlesnewington.com .
We are delighted to have the opportunity to have him come and run this weekend course for us.
